When Sanjana Madappa and her husband Aditya Raheja of Bengaluru, India found out that they were having a baby, they were excited to introduce the latest addition to their family of five dogs. However, not everyone shared these feelings.
The couple was told by many people that they should get rid of their dogs. Family and friends were concerned about how the dogs would react to a new baby and whether this would cause any problems. Sanjana also had a difficult pregnancy and her doctors also advised her to give up the dogs. Of course, the couple was going to do no such thing. Rather, she believes that having the dogs around helped her during the difficult times.
Sanjana works in animal welfare and had encountered hundreds of dogs over the years that had been abandoned when someone in the family they were living with became pregnant. The couple was adamant that this was not the route they were going to take. All their dogs were rescues and they had pledged to give them a forever home.
The couple chose to keep their dogs and included their precious pups in their maternity shoot. These maternity pictures show how excited the whole family is about welcoming the newest member of their family.
In a Facebook post, Madappa explains, “One of the most common reasons I hear for giving up a pet is ‘I’m pregnant.’” When she became pregnant with her first child, she got the same advice, especially when her pregnancy proved to be a difficult one. She writes, “I was told by family, friends and even my doctor to get rid of my dogs, that my baby came first. I was told the same things that all those people who have given up pets tell me.” Madappa refused. “I could never do that to any of my four-legged kids,” she tells Bustle. “And I don’t believe in giving away one family member just to bring in another.”
Shortly after, Sanjana gave birth to a healthy baby boy, who has five canine siblings for company! Take a look at the all the adorable pictures here.
